My Story: From Prison Cell to Financial Freedom
Born in Timmonsville, South Carolina, I was raised by my maternal grandmother in Brooklyn, New York. In 1988, I entered the United States Army and served for three years. After being discharged under honorable conditions, I found myself back on the streets of Brooklyn during the 
height of the crack cocaine epidemic. Like many inner-city youths, I became involved in distributing illicit drugs and was soon sentenced to 120 months inside federal prison.
I served the full 10 years—time that should have been reduced to 8 years and 8 months with good behavior. But prison forces you to embrace the monster inside you just to survive, and in doing so, I lost all my good time. I completed my full sentence, followed by 8 years of probation.
When I was finally released, I requested relocation to Las Vegas, and the government obliged. I moved in with my grandmother, who had always been my anchor. She helped keep me grounded as I adjusted to a new life outside the prison walls. My first job was at a 7-Eleven, where I was eventually promoted to manager. I worked as a public bus stop cleaner, then at Walmart, and later secured an apprenticeship with a pipe-fitting company. But deep down, I knew I wanted more.
My first major goal was to move out of my grandmother’s house and build something for myself. I saved every penny until I had enough for my own apartment. But at the last moment, I made a bold decision—I walked away from the apartment and instead put my money down on a one-bedroom, one-bath mobile home.
That mobile home changed everything. I rented it out and moved into a larger one. The rental income gave me extra cash flow, which I saved until I had enough for a down payment on a house. Before I knew it, I had purchased my first home. I rented out the second mobile home, then leveraged my equity and rental income to buy another property. Within a year, I had multiple streams of income—from rent and home equity—slowly but surely securing my financial freedom.
I made mistakes along the way. I struggled, I learned, and I adjusted. But what took me years to figure out, I can now teach you to achieve in a fraction of the time.
